Things that changed the World.

Imagine a World without Google or a Mobile phone .How would our lives have been ?There are various such things which have changed this world.Its hard to list all of them.Below I list 5 things that i feel have made the most impact.Things that have taken this world into a new dimension in the past few decades.

1)Transport :Ages back it would take months for a man to travel from one place to another.With the invention of the ship by the Egyptians ,man began to explore new places and expand trade with other countries.This was a major source of transport used by the Egyptians ,Romans and other civilizations.With the introduction of railways in the mid 1800's most of the cities were connected .But it was in the late 1800's century when Karl Benz and Henry Ford revolutionized the automobile sector,the transport system went through a major change.And later with the invention of Aeroplane by the Wright Brothers ,today it is possible to visit cities in various countries within hours.And today with the advance of technology the concept of Space tourism is gaining popularity.We may not be surprised if a visit to the Moon/Mars is made possible as a part of space tourism .Undoubtedly transport system has undergone a lot of changes in the last few decades and made a huge impact.

2)Computer :The invention of analytical engine by Charles Babbage earned him the title Father of Computers.It used the punched card technology.And from then on various changes have taken place .ENIAC was the first electronic based computer.It was the size of an entire room and weighed 27 tonnes.It used vacuum tubes.And then in the 1950s the use of transistors reduced the size of the computers drastically.With the introduction of IC's the computers were revolutionized and made available to the common man .Today computer has become a basic need .It is used in the field of education,business,science,Banks,Weather analysis etc. From the size of a room to the size that can fit on a lap, Computer has indeed been one of the things that has changed this world.

3)Internet:The invention of computer was a boon to the mankind.But without Internet ,computers would not have been this popular they are today. There has been no single person credited with the invention of Internet.DARPA,Berners Lee,Klienrock all have equally contributed to the development of Internet.Internet is used for Business,trade,Social Networking,Email,etc.It is not possible for me to post this without the Internet.Internet has made the concept of universal brotherhood come true.With the introduction of OCW,NPTEL,MITx,Khan academy etc education has not been restricted to a particular individual or a country thus making Internet a default choice to my list.

4)Mobile Phones : When Jyoti Basu made the first mobile call in 1995, Mobile phones were affordable only to the rich.The first cost tariff was 16Rs per minute.There were only 5 million subscribers in the first 6 years.And  today there are around 929 million mobile subscribers.With the number of service providers increasing everyday ,the call rates have reduced to paisas/min.And with the advent of technology Internet is easily accessible through mobile phones.Various other features such as Gps,Games,Media Player,Camera,Mobile Banking,Booking cinema tickets etc have made Mobile Phones popular..This evolution of Mobile phones have definitely changed the world making anything available at our fingertips.

5) Indian Politics and the Arab Spring:
 There have been a lot of changes in Indian Politics since a few decadesThe INC that comprised of Mahatma Gandhi,Nehru,Abul kalam Azad ,Vallabhai Patel etc has never been the same.Today TIME magazine has rated our Prime Minister as the  Underachiever.Scams,Corrupt Politicians & Goons -This is what the present day politics is about.The second thing that i would like to mention is the Arab spring or the Arab uprising that began in Tunisia in 2010 .This uprising had spread to other Arab countries i.e Egypt,Libya ,Yemen,Jordan to name a few of them.These protests have led to the downfall of Ben Ali,Hosni Mubarak,Gaddafi etc who had been ruling their countries for decades.These events which led to a national uprising made the government to make certain policy changes.2 other events I would like to mention are :The protest for the implementation of Jan Lokpal Bill in India and the Wikileaks movement started by Julian Assange .

These are the 5 major things which according to me have changed this world in the past few decades.Cinema,Sports,Media,Journalism are the other things that have also caused a huge impact.
